How New Hampshire Regulates Memory Care
For dementia care, the New Hampshire regulator to know is New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, Health Facilities Licensing Unit; a memory care unit typically runs under a residential care license from that office, with extra requirements for locked or alarmed exits, dementia training and overnight staffing. State site
Under New Hampshire rules, a secured dementia unit can operate inside these license categories: Assisted Living Residence – Residential Care; Assisted Living Residence – Supported Residential Health Care. Ask which one the community holds and whether its dementia unit is listed on that license.
Before you tour, confirm: New Hampshire assisted living residences that serve residents with dementia in secured units must meet added requirements. Also ask how many caregivers are on the memory care floor at night and what dementia training each one completed.
